Educational systems must empower students with skills and competences like critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, innovation, digital literacy, communication, and adaptability to help them cope with a constantly changing world.

It is imperative that educational institutions explore and adopt new forms of pedagogy for an interactive world to make students future ready.

Here are some of the innovative pedagogical approaches that have the potential to transform learning experiences for 21st Century learners.

Hybrid Teaching

It combines face-to-face and online teaching into a cohesive learning experience; some students attend class in-person, while others join the class virtually from home. It may involve synchronous and asynchronous learning activities.Synchronous hybrid teaching is where teachers deliver learning to remote and in-person students at the same time using technology like video conferencing. In asynchronous hybrid learning, students learn/interact online at different times through pre-recorded video instruction, online discussions, or online exercises.

Micro-credentials

Micro-credentials are short courses or small amounts of learning that allow learners to receive formal acknowledgment – a badge, a certificate, academic and/or professional credit. It can be pursued with regular studies or while being in a profession. It includes e-Portfolios for skills articulation, competency-based learning, case-based learning that help learners develop the knowledge, skills, and competences they need for their personal and professional development.

Dual Learning

In Dual Learning, the classrooms have a synchronization between classroom learning/training and professional practices in the industry. This educational model requires industries to team up with educators to develop a curriculum that enables dual learning scenarios. Dual Learning helps the learners to gain an understanding of the professional practices expected in the industry.

Pedagogy of Autonomy

An educational model that encourages learner autonomy, it allows the learners to choose their skills and methods for learning. Teachers need to support the learners in developing efficient study habits and techniques to master their way of learning.

Watch Parties

This model requires good network connectivity. It engages learners collectively, with a specific video or broadcast. Learners can watch the video or broadcast from a place of their comfort. It allows learners to have links to learning tasks, group discussions and message-based chats.

Pedagogies of the Home

Different from ‘homeschooling’, Pedagogies of the Home involves the accumulation of information from the home and the wider communities. This model focuses on the informal learning that happens in the home environment and culturally specific methods of learning such as through the local community that prepares learners to deal with real-life challenges.
